John has been a news photographer since 1983, starting work for Sun Newspapers in Brisbane, Australia. During his time there he won Rothmans Australian Press Photographer and Sports Photographer of the Year in 1990, also Nikon Cadet Photographer of the year in 1984.

After my time at the paper I joined Reuters news agency in Australia before moving with them to Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, London and Washington DC. He's also worked at the Nagano Winter Olympic and Sydney Olympic Games, The soccer World Cup in Japan, Cricket World Cup in India/Pakistan as well as various international sporting events and state visits, G7 and APEC meetings.

About a week before she died the late Princess Diana, during an interview with the LeMonde newspaper, she selected a picture I took of her as her favourite press image.

In 2005 I left Reuters to returned to my native Australia for Getty Images, which I left in 2007. After leaving Getty I have been working for Australian Associated Press.

For years I have covered motorsport, including Formula One and Motorcycling Grands Prix, and am currently involved in covering Australia's V8 Supercars with Edge Photographics for V8 Supercars. In this role we supply a daily file of images to Australia's metropolitan and local newspapers to suit newspaper deadlines.

While covering this I met a number of models who have been very encouraging about my work and sent me into a new direction. So I am currently trying to broaden my skills in portrait and fashion photography. While I have a lot of experience in the news and sport fields. I am looking to gain a lot more experience in portraits and modelling imagery and bring my portfolio up to date.

I am also looking to learn and, as throughout my career I have had many fine photographers and subjects help me out, I would love to help others, whether they be photographers or models in anyway I can.
